Summer Time highlights

This summer we had a whole lot of fun:

Our daughter got married!...

We visited all of our kids..
at many different times...
but we actually held our first family reunion...
which was a flop...but that is okay...you have to start somewhere!.

Ron and I drove by ourselves to Arizona and back...
and we had a fantastic time visiting along the way...
As we drove, the other one read out loud from  a book by Nicholas Spark, "Safe Haven"...
We haven't read a book together for MANY years!

AND then we got to visit with my family in Arizona...
BUT the time there went all too quickly...
YET our drive home was still so great to spend together..
THEN we quickly drove back home to do laundry and repack and

We took the youngest boys to Fairmont for a week...
Crystal was the only one of the marrieds who had time off to come and visit us this year...
WHICH was fun
and hopefully next year, we can combine our family reunion with our Fairmont vacation!!
I already started planning for it so that somehow it will turn out...
I think it will be a much better plan to spend time together with a bit more space than our house...
and a WHOLE lot more to do than in the wintertime at home!

An early morning drive (4:30am) from B.C. back to Alberta went so well as Ron got a book, "The 13th Reality", on CD for us all to listen to..We started it on our first drive to Lethbridge and finished it about 15 minutes before we got home late last night!!

We helped our newly married Elizabeth move into their own home on Saturday...how great for the two of them!! They spent the week painting and making the place their own and then we all helped them move their stuff in.  This will be the first time for the two of them to meld together their two former houses...a true adventure!!

We even got a visit with my extended family at a get-together for my nephew who is going on a mission...
What a lot of fun...
And a lot of terrific people...

My mom has 8 kids, 8 in-laws, 62 grandkids and 60 great grandkids...

WOWZERS!!

Speaking of missions, two of my nephews and one almost niece went on missions this summer...so exciting!
We are so excited for the decision/work it took for each of them to go- what a life changing experience!!
My father-in-law always says that they leave as boys and come back as men. And the girls....well, I guess there are more mature when they leave to start with!!

And now, here we are back home,
A bit of a let-down,
Knowing we have to start back to school soon,
And we have to move our little Rachel down south to go to college!!

She is growing up!! and I am sure it won't be easy, but she'll do just fine, I am sure!

And I have to get things in place for myself to start back to school.  This will be my hardest year yet- YIKES! I will have the same amount of classes as last semester, but they will be harder and require more homework!

And I will have two full day practicum days a week!!  Don't know where yet, but soon to work it out as it is less than a month before I start it!

This computer that I am on, is not picture friendly, so just close your eyes and imagine what all that looks like!!

until next time!!

  1. Pam, Love the name of your blog. What is an almost niece? I find reunions a pain but grandma is not well and lots of my dad's family are drinkers and smokers. Sounds like a full summer. Have a great practicum. SO happy for you! (Angela)

  2. Just wanted to say that we found the "Thompson family reunion" to be great. We may have traveled as much as we were there and people were not all there at the same times but overall we got to see everyone, hike, be in the waterton lake and make new memories. It was great, mom, don't be so hard on yourself!
PS-Ana, her almost niece is the daughter of my dad's best friend. They live in Calgary and she is going to Toronto, same as the cousin who had his farewell this weekend. Exciting, exciting!!
